Who is Gregg Phillips?

Gregg Phillips has made quite a name for himself. He has done so by telling half-truths to gain notoriety. Sadly, he seems to use God to lure people in by sharing scripture, telling his story of cancer and using half-truths to tout his past accomplishments. Unfortunately, his actions never seem to line up with God’s word.

We as Christians are called to call out ungodly behavior: re: 1 Corinthians 5:3. We base our concerns about his behavior on statements in Greggs own words, his posts on social meda, and various videos and articles. In the tradition of the Bereans in the Bible (Acts 17:10-12), we have “inspected what we expected” which is the truth.

Gregg has been interviewed numerous times on podcasts, talk shows, and livestreams. He always seems to give a sketchy description of his life and accomplishments. We found it a bit confusing, so we sought to find out why his stories frequently change. Fortunately for us, Gregg provided enough information to get us started in the right direction.

For example, on July 6, 2022, Gregg was on AlabamaUnfiltered (found on Rumble) and he stated that he ended up in Tuscaloosa after his dad came back from Vietnam. Gregg has never mentioned his Father’s name, nor the branch of the military or the dates of his service. However, we found records that indicate his father’s name was Paul Morris Phillips and he served in the United States Air Force from 1961-1981. Paul had achieved the rank of Lieutenant Col prior to leaving the Air Force in 1981. His address indicates he lived in San Diego from his birth in 1933 until his death in 2000. Paul was married twice to Myrna Lee Jones Phillips and Berenice Barr Phillips. Gregg was born in San Diego on October 13, 1960. His older brother Scott Douglas Phillips who was born February 11, 1958, also lived in California up until the early to mid 80’s. Just FYI, Greggs older brother is a huge tech guy and graduated from the University of Alabama with a B.A. degree. Scott, the older brother and Gregg worked at Greggs now defunctcompany, “Auto.Gov” from 2007-2009.

Why not tell people this? Gregg has stated that his dad was in military service when he was very young, Gregg was 2 years old at the time andhis older brother was 4. When their father retired in 1981, Gregg was 20 years old. Gregg goes on to say he “ended up” in Tuscaloosa after his dad came back from Vietnam (in 1975 Gregg was 15) and “ended up” going back to school there. Where was Gregg before he “ended up” in Tuscaloosa? Gregg states he grew up just outside of Montgomery, Alabama. Wait, didn’t he just say he went to school in Tuscaloosa at 15 years old? Gregg then states he went to Lanier High School in Montgomery (graduated in 1979) and went to Alabama University (Tuscaloosa) in 1979. Is your head spinning yet?

When asked what he majored in there was a quick pause and he said it was in “finance”. The Guardian noted that the records from Alabama University (Tuscaloosa) showed that he in fact majored in transportation, according to multiple press reports at the time. After graduating college (1983) he says he “went back” to California (San Diego). Are we missing something here, he “went back” to California? Gregg has never stated he was born or lived there. Additionally, what he fails to convey is that he was married to Elizabeth Anne Hollis on July 2, 1983, in San Diego California.

Just a side note, Gregg told a story on the Elijah Stream on August 23, 2022, that he was dating a girl in high school, then college and she had a car wreck and died which left him with a “giant void”. He said a friend in Alabama introduced him to Christ, but he didn’t fully embrace it until 2019. It would appear He had to have been dating ElizabethHollis in college due to the fact that he married her right after he graduated in 1983. It does not appear he was too devastated, but to Gregg, it would appear he is seeking sympathy with this version of events.

Additionally, Gregg writes on Twitter in 2017(Heavy.com) that he lost his fiancé on December 19th years ago. Why tweet that? Once again, it appears he was seeking sympathy through attention. Records also indicate that Gregg and Elizbeth lived in San Diego in 1983. Documents show his brother Scott wasliving in Del-Mar California at the same time as well as both of his parents. Gregg goes on to say in his interview with Alabama Unfiltered that he worked for Safeway (Pleasant Hill CA) in 1983 which would corroborate with his marriage record.

Gregg claims that he had stayed there for a couple of years before moving to Birmingham for 5 or 6 years. Gregg’s words were “back to Birmingham” which is odd because he never stated he was ever there prior to coming back from California... Tell me, how could this be? Remember, he states he was in Tuscaloosa in 1975 and in Montgomery in 1979, his senior year, then went back toTuscaloosa in 1979 to attend college and stated he “grew up”just outside of Montgomery and in 1982 was back in “Montgomery” doing opposition research on George Wallace. So, he was going to college in Tuscaloosa Alabama in 1982 and working in Montgomery at the same time?? That’s a 2-hour drive at best, but OK, we’ll go with it.

This is where things seem to get strange: Gregg did an interview with Elijah Stream on August 23, 2022 (you can find the interview on Rumble) where he again tells Steve Shultz he spent most of his time in Montgomery and went to the university.

Wait, how is that possible? I thought he went to college in Tuscaloosa? This seems to be a very different story than from the one he has with Alabama Unfiltered on July 2, 2022 (interview on Rumble). He said he “got into politics” and told the interviewers that Perry Hooper Sr. was the Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court who got him into politics.

He said his “first” Job was to help Emory Folmer who was running against George Wallace for governor in Montgomery Alabama in 1982 and in his “first” Job he was doing opposition research (collecting dirt) on Governor George Wallace during his last term in office. PROBLEM! How is this even possible? Perry Hooper “wasn’t” the Supreme Court Justice until October 20, 1995! In fact, Perry Hooper was a probate judge in 1982.  And the Folmer vs. Wallace race for governor was in 1982-1983. Why not tell the truth? Because lying and saying he was a Supreme Court Judge made Gregg look much more influential, I mean saying he was just a probate judge doesn’t carry the clout to make Gregg look stellar. I found this to be so strange due to the fact that he has never mentioned this story about Perry Hooper and his “first” job. Yet, he told Steve Shultz that from there he has been in and out of U.S. politics and international politics.

International politics? When? Gregg totally forgot to mention college, marriage or moving to California in this interview. However, he did go on to say, “these days we call it election intelligence, gathering information and exploiting what we learn and analyzing it to then disseminate it.” At this point, Gregg now jumps back into his political accomplishments and stated he ran stat parties for a while in Mississippi and for the Newt GingrichPAC. Wait, he just ran stat parties for a while? However, on Alabama Unfiltered, Gregg states he worked for the Alabama Republican party “for a little while”. Then worked for “a guy” running for  governor of Mississippi (1991). He states, “he ran over there” and worked on that campaign for “a guy” by the name of Kirk Fordice.”

He said he stayed in his cabinet. What did he mean, he stayed in “his cabinet”? How were you in “his cabinet” when you were simultaneously working on his fundraising campaign? (Gregg didn’t work for Fordice until 1993) Governor Fordice “nominated” Gregg to be executive director of the State Department of Human Services. Despite an investigation into his background by state legislators which turned up several “red flags”.

Gregg also lied about his major in college, said he was registered to vote in Mississippi, but was not on the voter rolls, as he did not file a statement of economic interest by the deadline required in state ethics law and being a total hypocrite, he failed to pay his child support after he was critical of “deadbeat fathers.”His ex- wife’s husband revealed that in an interview with a local paper.

A Republican state senator reportedly pressured investigators to drop those surrounding Gregg. When he is questioned about these inconsistencies he denies and curses you out for daring to confront him. Gregg went on to say in this interview that Governor Fordice always introduced him in his speeches as his “box guy” as he was the one tasked with firing people. (“Fordice would give people he fired a box then told them to get their crap and get out”) so I guess the torch was passed to Gregg and he enjoyed being “the box man” so much so, that he tweeted on December of 2017, “I bear (sic) scars of firing 20K govt jobs, cutting $4B a year in Texas & reforming welfare. Not sure @realDonaldTrump team is ready for me”(heavy.com).

 He apparently does enjoy it. Gregg states he was in Governor Fordice’s cabinet and went from department to department “doing things and firing a bunch of folks and going out to hire a replacement and moving on to fire the next one”. (again, he was proud when speaking about this). I found it interesting that after 3 tumultuous years the embattled Phillips could no longer stand the heat. Facing a wave of opposition, he resigned in 1995 (per Off the Kuff.com). The article went on to say State employees protested privatization of child support collections. Legislators, upset by the issue and at odds with Fordice, threatened to close the agency. Advocates of the poor called Phillips a liar, and a Jackson Clarion-Ledger editorial cartoon portrayed Gregg as a Pinocchio.

Notice in Gregg’s interviews he called Governor Fordice “a guy”. It was like he didn’t know who he really was. However, to my surprise, I found out exactly why Gregg got away with his lies and not to mention an executive position at HHS that led to him landing a contract to the tune of $878,000 (Guardian.com 2017). Gregg left MHHS and worked for the company that the contract was awarded to. At that time Gregg showed to be working for Synesis Corp and GHT (a company he owned). To add insult to injury, Gregg had absolutely no experience or qualifications for the job whatsoever when working for Mississippi HHS. Interestingly, but not at all surprising, Gregg was in line to be appointed head of the human services department in his home state of Alabama (The Birmingham News in October of 1995) (6 months after leaving Mississippi HHS) urged Governor Fob James to look elsewhere. “He can find better than Phillips,” the newspaper said in an editorial.

Noting that auditors had discovered serious mismanagement in his Mississippi department, the article said Phillips held “Shakey qualifications and a suspect tract record”. He was subsequently passed over for the position. Let’s move on here. So, Gregg is doing fundraising for Fordice in 1991 and is working for him in 1993. However, what Gregg conveniently leaves out is a huge piece of information. Gregg was married at the time, which in and of itself is no big deal, but this marriage has a little secret attached to it. Gregg’s second marriage was to a woman by the name of Helen Christine Roesch. They were married in Vicksburg Mississippi on December 18, 1993.

The dirty little secret is Helen, has a sister by the name of Mary Katherine (Kaki) Roesch Leyens who lived in Vicksburg Mississippi and non-other than Laurence Leyens was her husband who just so happens to be the “MAYOR” of Vicksburg.

Oh no, it gets better. Helen has another sister named Ann Claire Roesch “FORDICE” who was married to Govenor Kirk Fordices’s son! How amazing is this? I can’t imagine why Gregg would want to leave this very important piece of information out of his accomplishments! Not one journalist has put this connection together. To this day, it has never been reported in the press. Apparently, no one in the government would think to utter a word! Hush hush is the name of the game in politics after all. What a hypocrite!

Gregg constantly brags that they never found any evidence to convict him of any wrong doing during his time in office. Of course not, it was all in the family! Don’t believe it? In an article found at Chron.com on January 3, 2005, it states in 1993 Governor Fordice hires a man by the name of Larry Temple who worked for Gregg as his deputy before becoming the director of welfare reform in Texas. Gregg and Larry were very good friends. It was Temple who introduced Phillips to the TWC in June of 2002 for a welfare job training grant that would be administered by the South Texas Community College and train workers for Texas Home Health Care of America.

Phillips and Temple had contracts with the same colleges to work on the same projects in 2001. Just so happens that Larry along with his son Brad goes to work for Enterject, Inc. in 2001. So Enterject, Inc. was the company obtaining these grants beginning in August of 2002. So who owns Enterject, Inc? Non other that Gregg Phillips! Gregg founded Enterject, Inc. in 2000 in Atlanta Georgia He hired a woman by the name of Paige Harkins who was the daughter of a friend of Larry Temple in 2003. Temple also hired Gregg’s sister-in-law, Katherine “Kaki” Leyens to work for the Texas Workforce Commission. You know, the wife of the “Mayor” of Vicksburg Mississippi. Nothing to see here folks!

In March of 2003 to August of 2004,Gregg was deputy director of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission overseeing an overhaul of the human services system. Temples secretary, Sharon Reininger, raised questions about whether he was providing close friends with proprietary information to give them an advantage in the contract procurement process (from and internal TWC stated). I Found it interesting that Ann Fuelberg who worked for Enterject, Inc. quit and was named executive director of the Employee’s retirement system of Texas. (Chron. Com).

What we have documented here is a pattern of behavior that is not consistent. We are not drawing any conclusions. We will leave that up to you but it’s clear, there is a patriot playing games telling half-truths all over social media. The real question is why?
