Waking up is hard to do. Well, not on a day to day basis for normal healthy people but politically speaking, for many, it seems to be exceptionally challenging. The actual inspiration for this article stems from the song “breaking up is hard to do” by Neil Sedaka which was released back in 1962. It’s a catchy tune and it gets stuck in your head easily. Especially if you swap out “breaking up” for “waking up” in the main chorus.
Waking up politically, much like breaking up romantically, is hard to do. The prospect of leaving a relationship that you’ve spent time, money, and emotion on would cause anyone to pause. But unlike your significant other woes, your political woes have lasting effects and can cause generations of damage if you don’t make decisions based in rational thought. Love causes us to make decisions that perhaps we wouldn’t normally make. Oh “the things we do for love” as the old saying goes.
So who needs to be woken up? Who hasn’t figured out that they are in a toxic relationship with an abusive partner? Republicans? Nope. Republican voters were allowed to choose a presidential candidate against the advice of their respective establishment and for better or for worse, they were allowed to carry that candidate to a legitimate general election victory. Democrats? Yes, indeed it is this sleepy, droopy eyed bunch most in need of a monumental and profound awakening.
There is a small cadre of Activists on the left who have woken up to the reality that the Democrat party is a shell organization with no real intent of representing you, on any level, other than spending large amounts of money with research firms in order to craft a message that they think, will grab your attention.
Free thinkers on the left are ostracized, called Trump supporters or given the Mac daddy of all insults and called “Putin loyalists”. Well guess what-Putin didn’t rig the election, Putin didn’t tell the DEA to stand down and let hezbollah sell cocaine in American neighborhoods, Putin didn’t let Monsanto have free reign with our nations food supply, and Putin didn’t use the nations intelligence agencies to spy on a political opponent, that was your guy.
As top the top Democratic leadership runs around blaming Russia, investigating Jill stein and turning a blind eye to the steaming heaping piles of newly unearthed obama era scandals, the further away your party gets from being anything worth being a part of, let alone voting for. Purity tests aren’t a bad thing at all, contrary to recent rhetoric from talking heads on the left but should instead become the new norm from this point on.
This is a pivotal moment in history for the Democrat party and it’s base. Reform now and reform fast or give rise to a unified and unrestrained Republican Party or give rise to a third party comprised of a disenfranchised voter coalition that could end up rivaling both parties. (My personal hope)
I despise the two party system- don’t get me wrong, but I’d rather have a balanced two party system than see one party run amok with no checks and balances from the other side because it is currently a feckless smoldering dumpster fire of a political party.
They will continue to come to you for support without reform and insist that you refute any condemnation of it, (regardless of fact) and shame those who won’t join the thoughtless regurgitation Party. This doesn’t make you credible, it doesn’t allow you to come off as informed and it certainly doesn’t attract anyone to your cause. By engaging in this activity you are fostering the spread of identity politics, placing party before policy and most importantly sacrificing a Transparent Democracy for a win in the political Super Bowl. Go team go!
We need you to stop. Let it go and join the ranks of the living and start thinking for yourself again. Waking up is hard to do, but it’s a process I’m willing to help see through, not only for me, but for you too.
The Bernie wing and the clinton wing need to make amends and turn their guns away from one another and aim them at the establishment as that is the true root of the parties ailments.
I was recently chastised online by a Democrat loyalist for pointing out Bernie Sanders hypocrisy regarding his pre and post primary rhetoric. I was told that by speaking to those truths I was an unwitting pawn in helping the Republican Party. That couldn’t be further from the truth. When you jam your fingers in your ears, close your eyes and say “la-la-la-la” incessantly it is you, that is helping the Republican Party by handicapping your own intellectual honesty.
In closing, the identity politics and idol worship on the left, be it for Bernie or Hillary needs to stop. Get back to the issues, support your truth tellers, and start holding people accountable. Stop letting the Donna Brazile’s of the party sweet talk their way out of obvious ethical and moral shortcomings and take a stand, not only for this generation, but the next.
